Portland Media Group, in partnership with the Maine Association of Broadcasters, is offering a paid summer internship opportunity with News Radio 98.5FM and AM560 WGAN—Southern Maine’s renowned source for news and talk. This is a perfect opportunity for college students with a passion for broadcast journalism to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic newsroom environment.

Position Overview:

· Duration: June 2025 – August 2025 (exact dates to be arranged)

· Hours: 15 hours per week for 12 weeks (minimum 180 hours)

· Schedule: Primarily weekdays, with potential evening and weekend hours

Key Responsibilities:

· Assist the WGAN news department with writing news stories and conducting field interviews

· Post stories on our website and assist with other online content management

· Field work gathering sound for local stories and attend press conferences.

Qualifications:

· Must be a college student eligible to earn academic credit for the internship

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Knowledge of social media platforms

· Basic understanding of radio production and programming

· Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

· Eagerness to learn and take on a variety of tasks

· Familiarity with audio software (ProTools, Audacity) and WordPress

· Knowledge of Burli NewsRoom software is a plus

A valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required. Interns will be required to drive to various locations throughout Southern Maine

Our production director is retiring in March after 32 years in the role. Now, Saga Communications’ Portland Media Group has an immediate opening for a multi-faceted audio professional to replace him at our eight-station cluster here in New England’s fourth largest media market. You’ll ply your craft in a studio that’s the envy of some major markets running Pro Tools DAW software. The primary studio is designed to be a post-production room capable of producing for radio as well as audio for video, jingles, audio books and longer form projects. The room runs Pro Tools Ultimate with an Avid C24 24 fader control surface, Mackie studio monitors, a Whisper Room isolation booth for voiceovers, and a Roland GW-8 keyboard. Mic selection includes Neumann TLM 103, U87, Shure KSM 32, Audio Engineering R84 and EV RE20s. Plugins include stock Pro Tools, complimented by plugins from Waves, iZotope, Fab Filter and Zynaptic. Studio and equipment are very clean and maintained by a finicky, full-time staff engineer.

 

Applicants should have professional experience with Avid Pro Tools software or be fundamentally skilled in regular use of a major DAW software package, such as Adobe Audition, Apple Logic, Presonus Studio One, Reaper, etc. with willingness to apply those techniques and skills to creating within the Pro Tools environment.

PART-TIME PROMOTION PERSONNEL, PORTLAND, ME

Portland Media Group has immediate openings for energetic and outgoing individuals to join our promotional Street Team! As a Street Teamer, you will assist with a multitude of on-site events and act as a brand ambassador for some of New England’s most listened-to radio stations.

Assignments include, but are not limited to, major concerts, station remote broadcasts and large public events hosted by our stations. Operator On Duty, Portland, Maine

NewsRadio 98-5FM and AM 560 WGAN is searching for dependable, open-minded and detail-oriented individual for part-time weekend work. WGAN is Maine’s award-winning, legacy news voice broadcasting from outstanding facilities in South Portland.

As an OOD (Operator on Duty), your responsibilities include writing and voicing audio newscasts, producing weather forecasts and audio commercial spots and helping to ensure the smooth overall operation of our stations outside normal business hours. You will also be responsible for quickly troubleshooting any minor technical issues with our eight-station cluster of leading stations.
